My sweet Grandparents would work all winter to be prepared for Decoration Day, what we call Memorial Day. They would save juice cans then spray paint them for vases. They would eagerly watch their snowball bush and peony plants hoping they would bloom in time. They decorated at least 50 graves with their lovingly prepared bouquets. After Grandpa passed and Grandma had to move from their home I got some starts from their plants for my own yard. I know next to nothing about plants and after reading an article about transplanting peonies, I realize I am lucky they survived my amatuer efforts. I have had them for 4 years and this is the first year they had any buds. I have watched anticipation for the blooms so I could pay tribute to Grandma and Grandpa with a peony bouquet. It has been such a cold spring that they didn't make it in time for Decoration Day. They finally made their appearance this morning so I made a trip to the cemetary this afternoon. The scent of these flowers is glorius. I wish I had a way to post it!
